As communities begin to change and grow they can lose their own history and heritage in a drive for greater prosperity. Long-term residents, older businesses and established neighborhoods can be left behind, but in a New Woodbridge, residents old and new alike will have services and programs to help keep the core identity of their neighborhoods.
Woodbridge has some of the oldest neighborhoods in Prince William County, and a large number of residents raised their families here while helping to build the community. Some neighborhoods are in need of revitalization as well as a connection to the newer communities growing around them.
Prince William County provides numerous programs and services that allow us to keep the character of our neighborhoods and improve them over the long run, while allowing connections with new neighborhoods being developed here in Woodbridge. Citizens are already participating in beautification and clean-up efforts in Woodbridge, and we have kept a focus on enforcing existing laws and ordinances to deal with troublesome and blighted properties in the community.
The Woodbridge District has a robust and effective code-enforcement plan to protect residents’ home values from properties that are not maintained correctly. Supervisor Principi has formed a Woodbridge Civic Association that consists of leaders from individual neighborhoods to ensure issues facing the community are addressed by our County Government. Prince William County has one of the most successful Neighborhood Watch programs in the nation, and this partnership with the Police Department helps to deter crime and make our neighborhoods safer.
